Cordis Auckland has opened its new $ 170 million Pinnacle tower as part of the new Covid-19 traffic light system.

This opening of the Pinnacle Tower coincided with the reopening of the hotel after a long lockdown in Auckland.

The new 17-story tower houses 244 premium rooms. This addition brings the total number of rooms to 640, making Cordis Auckland the largest hotel in terms of number of rooms in New Zealand.

The top floor houses the Chairman suite. At around $ 5,000 a night, this is one of the largest suites in town for top visiting dignitaries and celebrities – when they can return to New Zealand.

The 252.6m² suite has a dining area and a spacious marble bathroom, a desk, a huge circular bathtub bathed in natural light, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city. Finished off with a selection of bespoke locally preserved artwork, bespoke furnishings, a fireplace and a large private balcony with a fireplace.

The superior suite has its own private entrance away from the hotel lobby.

“We look forward to welcoming guests to the Pinnacle Tower, where they can revel in the spectacular city skyline and views of Waitematā Harbor,” said Franz Mascarenhas, Managing Director of Cordis Auckland.

The tower offers stunning 360-degree views of Auckland’s landmarks from the hotel’s upper floors, including the Harbor Bridge, One Tree Hill, Rangitoto, Mount Eden, and the Sky Tower. It was built on the site of a parking lot and was able to adapt to the view tree rules for Mount Eden.

Designed by New Zealand architects Jasmax, the interiors are “sleek and clean and luxurious yet minimalist, with contemporary finishes”.

It houses the largest locally curated art collection. Coupland Cormack has curated a collection of 46 innovative commissions, spanning multiple mediums that were created by nine of Aotearoa’s most prominent contemporary artists.

A specially designed art walk connects the existing hotel building to the Pinnacle Tower through an immersive directional art walkway.
The new Cordis Club Lounge is set to be New Zealand’s largest and most exclusive hotel club lounge.

There are also more event spaces.

All guests wishing to use the hotel facilities – stay, dine or be treated at the spa at the hotel will need to be fully immunized.

This change took effect last Friday when Auckland switched to the Covid-19 protection framework. This vaccination mandate also includes all staff working at the hotel.

Mascarenhas said it was the best option available to keep everyone safe and stress-free from the moment they walk through the doors until they say goodbye.

“We are living in unprecedented times, and with that come some tough decisions that we have to make as a business. We have decided to take a stand on mandatory vaccines across our entire team and all visitors, to ensure that our guests and colleagues feel reassured that they are in a safe environment, ”he said.

“This decision was not easy and required a lot of discussion, commentary and debate to ensure that we came to the right decision for our company, our colleagues and our guests.”

Cordis Auckland is one of a collection of 5 star hotels owned by the Hong Kong-based Langham Hospitality Group.
