The hotel and tourism industry are boosted by events in the region
WAUSAU, Wisconsin (WAOW) – “It’s going to be so nice to be back after this year, it’s been a tough year, last year for everyone, we know that,” said Mort McBain, founder of Wausau Chalkfest.
In light of things like Chalkfest and the sidewalk sales that start this weekend, as well as everything that happens in Wausau during the summer months, some in the hospitality industry have started to see an increase in bookings. .
“We are very, very proud to be able to accommodate the guests who come here,” said Jefferson Street Inn General Manager Carla R. Baker.
Another representative from the Jefferson Street Inn says being so close to the action makes for a better overall experience, a feeling that has been lost over the past year and more.
“Any event that takes place downtown, we want to be a part of and be known with, so when you have Chalkfest or you have music in the plaza or any other event like this where we are on our knees. We want everyone to know that we’re here, we’re here for Wausau and for the people, ”said Christopher Stamm, Director of Sales and Marketing for the Jefferson Street Inn.
Not only that, business has been booming lately.
“When you look at our weekends, we’re full so it’s okay,” Baker said.
Coupled with weekend traffic, the hotel also hosts two wedding receptions between Friday and Saturday.
As for everything going on downtown, although some plans have changed, the show continues.
“This weekend is a little different than usual. We have a balloon rally out of town, Chalkfest is still downtown and there are shuttles between the two so you can still participate in both. events, ”McBain said.
So, are things back to pre-pandemic highs?
“I think we’re almost at the end. We’re on the other side of a challenge,” Baker said.
Another hotel in Wausau News 9 asked for comment and said it’s also full for the weekend.
