The host allegedly kicked the guest out at 1 a.m.
A man claimed his Airbnb host kicked him out of his timeshare in the middle of the night.
TikTok user @stringbeanboy13 posted this video recounting his alleged nightmare experience on Airbnb.
“Airbnb host locked the deadbolt and I had to book a hotel at 1am,” he wrote, along with sarcastic emojis.
In the video, you can see the man staying in what appears to be the hotel room he booked due to the awkward situation.
TikTokers ran to the comments section of the video to share similar inconveniences they allegedly experienced with unprofessional Airbnb hosts. The TikTokers claim to have contacted Airbnb support to receive compensation for their additional travel costs.
“No, because then you get a free trip on Airbnb. Happened to me once,” one TikTok user commented.
“It happened to me once, and Airbnb [compensated] the hotel stay that night. We made sure they [compensated] at least 50% of the rest of the trip,” said another.
Per Airbnb’s Rebooking and Refund Policy, travel disruptions reported within 72 hours of discovery may entitle guests to a full or partial refund. Additionally, alternate accommodations may be arranged by Airbnb Support on behalf of the traveler, depending on their circumstances.
“Thanks for the wisdom. I will definitely file a claim,” @stringbeanboy13 replied.
Other TikTokers have expressed their alleged distrust of Airbnb, and many have tagged the company’s TikTok in the comments section to get their attention.
“Airbnb is so sketchy like that,” said one TikToker.
“I prefer to be at the hotel. I will devour all their continental selections, ”added another.
However, one TikTok user commented in defense of Airbnb. “I’m so sick of hearing people blame the company for something a host has done. The majority of the millions of people who use Airbnb daily have no problem,” the TikToker said.
Despite the stress of the situation, @stringbeanboy13 provided TikTokers with an update on his travel experience after contacting Airbnb support.
“Obtained [a] 1/2 refund, [my] hotel reimbursed and [a] $200 future credit,” @stringbeanboy13 shared.
