Stay in a 600-year-old Airbnb in York … but there could be ghosts
This Airbnb in York may come with additional guests.
The Trembling Madness Apartments in the historic town are seemingly haunted, so be prepared to hang out with some ghosts.
The accommodation is around 600 years old and is located behind the House of Trembling Madness, a downtown pub.
You will have a view of the famous York Minster and it is an ideal base for exploring the rest of the city.
The apartment can accommodate four people with a king size four poster bed and a double sofa bed.
Host Ian said, “The Madness Chamber is haunted and well over 600 years old. It’s a time capsule for York containing woodwork and overlooking the cathedral. Quiet with a small outdoor courtyard, the perfect retreat. ‘
While the style adds to the spooky feel, it’s equipped with all the modern amenities you’d expect, including Wi-Fi, a washing machine, TV, and fridge.
The set costs from £ 98 per night, or less than £ 25 per person.
Guests who stayed said they may have come into contact with some of the apartment’s ghostly residents, but loved the experience.
One of them wrote: “I had a lovely stay at the Haunted Room. This is a fantastic, quirky apartment in a great location, well worth the creepy noises at 3 am.
Another added: “Quirky and interesting apartment, not for the faint of heart as it is quite scary! The location was perfect and made it easy to get around the city.
Someone else said, “Fascinating place! You will not have stayed in a place like this! It feels like you’re staying in a real piece of history and marveling at so much, whether it’s the sloping floors made from Elizabethan ships, the Victorian taxidermy collection, the spooky addition, etc. . You even see the cathedral from the apartment!
“As for the ghostly side, my girlfriend heard baby noises in the bedroom during the night… me, I slept! I really recommend it for a unique York experience.
