Seven Airbnb rentals ideal for couples, families and friends vacationing in Japan this summer
With summer vacation fast approaching in Japan, here are seven accommodations in five different areas to spend the getaway of your dreams.
In Japan, domestic travel is almost back to pre-pandemic levels. With more opportunities for trips and summer school vacations just over a week away for most children, families are starting to expect a summer that feels a lot more normal than anything since 2019.
In that sense, you might be looking to try something a little different to celebrate this year. Whether you’re taking kids or friends with you, here’s seven accommodations offered by Airbnb Japan which are in themselves exciting destinations where you can recharge your batteries at your leisure.
1. Elegant and Peaceful Log Cabin (Nagano City, Nagano Prefecture)
This secluded hideaway is perfect for couples and families who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city to spend quality time with each other surrounded by forest landscapes.
The picture-book cottage was constructed from natural materials using traditional Japanese methods. Despite its rustic appearance, it still offers modern comforts like a TV, Blu-ray/DVD player and a simple kitchen.
2. Re:New Cottage LUX01 (Minamitsuru District, Yamanashi Prefecture)
Originally built in 1979, this is a completely renovated house with a terrace that extends from the living room and dining room. A permanent stretch tent provides views of Mt Fuji and a place to relax outdoors whatever the weather, with a communal fire pit as well.
While the exterior of the building may be retro, the interior is very stylish. An open kitchen with a bar counter sits in the corner and overlooks a spacious room. More conveniently, the house is only a 90-minute drive from Tokyo, which also makes it an ideal place for a “workcation”.
3. Coastal Shack (Isumi City, Chiba Prefecture)
Why not spend your vacation immersed in a place with a combination of home and tropical paradise features? The highlight of this accommodation is a 15-meter (49.2-foot) outdoor swimming pool with a Jacuzzi also overlooking the ocean.
It’s even better, because there’s a poolside bar with a sound system and an outdoor wood-burning stove for all your party needs. This must be a taste of what a celebrity life is like.
4. Hidden Beach House (Isumi City, Chiba Prefecture)
The beach is only a five-minute walk from this tranquil home, but you may be so absorbed in your immediate surroundings that you’ll never get there! Up to 11 people can visit here during a stay and relax in the dry landscaped garden.
The common area inside has two levels with large windows overlooking the garden. In a somewhat unusual procedure, check-in time is 12:00 p.m. and check-out time is 3:00 p.m., so you even have a bit more time to relax during your stay.
5. New Villa LUX03 (Minamitsuru District, Yamanashi Prefecture)
This newly built villa, which was just completed in March, offers many ways to enjoy the outdoors while taking in views of Mount Fuji. Floor-to-ceiling windows run the length of the room, and a chestnut pillar and dining table serve as natural accents.
In particular, you’ll want to immerse yourself in the private garden with plants and an outdoor wood-burning stove while enjoying the changing atmosphere throughout the day, from soft moonlight to cheerful sunlight. .
6. 72Perch (Atami City, Shizuoka Prefecture)
While Atami is well known as a hot spring resort, staying at this single-level Japanese-style house offers a more intimate experience than a busy hotel. The ocean-view terrace with a hammock is perfect for lounging or watching the Atami fireworks festivals, while the common area features a blend of refined traditional architecture with modern elements.
But wait, surprise! You even get your own private natural hot spring on-site. Eliminate all your aches and pains at the end of the day in the comfort of your own space.
7. Karuizawa Villa 24 (Kitasaku District, Nagano Prefecture)
This accommodation is a perfect secret base for adults, rain or shine in the Karuizawa holiday destination.
An open wooden deck, a lounge bar and several types of stoves allow for a sophisticated holiday or vacation.
