Four members of a Russian family were found dead Friday in the sauna of a 5-star hotel in Albania. It is suspected that the family died of asphyxiation. According to some reports, they had gone on vacation to Albania and were to stay a week at the Gloria Palace Hotel. Sergey Burenkov, 60, and his wife Natalya Burenkova, 58, from Moscow, Russia, were on vacation with their daughter Katya, 31, and her partner Nikita Belousov, 37. They all checked into the hotel and made their way to the sauna, where they ordered food and a few drinks, but unfortunately were found dead before they were received.

The bodies were collected by hotel staff who went to deliver the food. The management of the hotel has informed the police and the investigation into the mysterious deaths is open.

Speaking to local media, hotel staff said, “I have repeatedly shouted that their order is ready. But no one answered, so I decided to go in, and that’s when I saw them all.

A Russian diplomatic source has revealed that the Russian Embassy in Tirana, the Albanian capital, is also investigating the cause of death. Local police are investigating whether the sauna complex’s ventilation system was in working order or not.

Reports further showed that the entire hotel staff team had been questioned by police personnel about the circumstances.

Meanwhile, numerous investigations are underway, in which the alcohol consumption by the victims is also examined and it is also checked whether there has been a technical failure of the ventilation system of the sauna, or whether the personnel of the hotel did not take care of its customers.

A police statement said: “At around 10 pm, the bodies of four people of Russian nationality were found in a sauna complex. All had been asphyxiated.

A spokesperson for the hotel said: “We are all very shocked by the circumstances in question. At the moment, the cause of death is unclear. We are awaiting the expertise and the forensic report. “
