Get the most out of your AirBnB experience with these tips
Staying at an AirBnB has become an attractive and sometimes cheaper way for people to enjoy their vacation, especially if you are traveling in a large group.
Even in the Caribbean, demand for AirBnB accommodations has increased, with countries with digital nomad programs seeing an increase in demand.
According to internal AirBnB data, nights booked for long-term stays by U.S. travelers in destinations across the Caribbean more than doubled between 2019 and 2021..
Overall, AirBnB has seen revenue rise as travel has come back strong this year. In the first quarter of 2022, gross room nights booked increased by 32% compared to the first quarter of 2019 despite continued concerns related to the pandemic, the war in Ukraine and macroeconomic headwinds, the company said in its first quarter financial results. 2022.
While there are definitely benefits to staying at an Airbnb such as affordability, family-friendly accommodations, the ability to stay in beautiful homes, and all the amenities you need like laundry facilities, all experiences are not wonderful.
You can try to avoid a less than pleasant experience by following the tips below.
Read all instructions carefully
Before booking, read all instructions and guidelines carefully. Clarify check-in and check-out times, what is allowed and what is not allowed, such as pets and smoking.
Make sure you are aware of the amenities available
Do you have all the amenities you need? Make sure what you’re looking for is listed, such as washers, dryers, kitchen appliances, towels, and an adequate number of beds and bathrooms.
Discover the area where AirBnB is located
You will not know the exact address of your place of stay until your reservation has been confirmed. Once you’ve confirmed, check out the area on Google Maps, search for news articles from the area, or Google the area for so much information about surrounding neighborhoods, safety, and places to visit. Also read the reviews for any potential red flags.
Learn about AirBnB security
Once at your AirBnB, take a look around, are the windows secure, can the doors lock properly, and is the house easily accessible to intruders? If you’re not comfortable, call AirBnB for your options.
Know your options if something goes wrong
AirBnB says if something beyond your control causes you to cancel a reservation, you may be eligible for a partial or full refund under their Extenuating Circumstances Policy. Guests who are affected by an event covered by this policy may cancel their reservation and receive, depending on the circumstances, a cash refund, travel credit and/or other consideration. Events covered include changes in travel requirements, travel restrictions, emergencies, epidemics and natural disasters.
If the host cancels or you have a travel issue, you may be eligible for rebooking assistance or a partial or full refund under the Guest Refund Policy. Other travel issues must be reported to us no later than 72 hours after they are discovered. If Airbnb determines that a travel issue disrupted the stay, it will provide a full or partial refund and, depending on the circumstances, may help the traveler find comparable or better accommodations. The amount refunded depends on the severity of the travel issue, the impact on the guest, the part of the stay affected and whether or not the guest leaves the accommodation.
